Therapy 101- Was it great or a waste of time?

Marianne Bailey March 20, 2023

Have you ever had therapy? Did you “Know how to Therapy?

Have you ever been in a challenging circumstance without being able to clearly discover a way out? You can be battling with addictive behavior or anxiety, or you may have recently gone through a breakup or a loss. Despite the situation, it’s critical to understand that you don’t have to deal with it alone.

I’ve experienced therapy’s life-saving power personally. I had been married for twenty years, and I just couldn’t shake the need to divorce. I eventually succeeded in doing that, but I sensed that there was something still lacking. It wasn’t until a friend suggested that I seek counseling that I began to glimpse the light at the end of the tunnel.

Therapy used to be frequently stigmatized and viewed as a sign of weakness. Yet times have changed, and getting expert assistance is now more typical than ever. You’re actually the odd one out if you’re not in therapy!

If you’re anything like me, therapy may seem a little confusing to you. I still recall thinking that I was completely unprepared for counseling. But, the truth is that therapy is only a tool you may use to better understand your feelings and ideas and resolve any problems you might be having.

“How do you feel about that?” was a question my therapist frequently asked me. Yet the solution wasn’t always straightforward. Sometimes we get so lost in our own thoughts that we don’t even realize what we’re feeling. But in this situation, treatment can truly help. I was able to have a deeper understanding of my own emotions and how they were affecting my life through discussion and introspection.

Of course, counseling is not only for divorcing couples. Many issues, such as coping with sorrow or abuse or controlling stress or worry, may warrant considering counseling. However, therapy can be a helpful tool for self-discovery and personal improvement even if you don’t believe you have any pressing concerns to address.

In my case, counseling enabled me to unearth hidden aspects of my relationships and self that I had long kept hidden. I was able to address childhood problems that were still bothering me as an adult. Although it wasn’t always simple, being able to deal with those problems head-on was immensely empowering.

Whether you’re going through a difficult period or simply feeling trapped in your life, I urge you to think about seeking counseling. Asking for assistance when you need it is not a sign of weakness. You’re not alone if you’re confused or unsure about how to approach treatment. You can get guidance from a skilled therapist who will also enable you to comprehend your feelings and thoughts better.

I’ll leave you with my best wishes for happiness and health. It’s never too late to alter your life for the better, and counseling might be a fantastic place to start.
