Susan Kurowski tells us about Pets for the Elderly Foundation and how it helps seniors with pet adoptions and the new programs it’s launching for 2021!
Pets for the Elderly Foundation help shelters across the country offer a discount to senior citizens wanting a pet as a companion. Susan tells us that their charter says “only cats and dogs” are part of their program.
It’s been shown that pets help seniors with depression, stress, keeping a routine, making friends (often while out walking their dog), and protection. I’ve heard from a few of my senior friends that their reason for keeping themselves healthy and “keep going” is their pets. One friend said, “Who else would take care of these guys if I was gone?”
Susan also told us about a new part of their organization being able to help seniors with food, medications and other things through partnerships with other businesses starting in January 2021.
